Sinterklaas arrives on a steam ship from Spain, with his white horse. Black Peter is also a much loved person who was dressed in a bright outfit and accompanied Sinterklaas. They have arrived in The Netherlands around mid November; and last night the children would have set their wooden shoe with a treat for the beautiful white horse that Sinterklaas rides. The story of Sinterklaas is based on a true story about a person who lived in the 1800’s and dedicated his life to the good of others.
Sinterklaas is the time of gift giving, traditionally, and Christmas is a religious time of celebrating the birth of the Saviour.
